I started my scientific career at the Biotechnology High School in Ulm, Germany and subsequently did research on peroxisome proliferator activated receptors at Harvard Medical School. During my undergraduate studies at the University of Graz, I gained extensive research experience, including work on the function of neuropathy target esterase-related esterase, experimentation at Harvard University on the activation of nuclear heart receptors by lipolytic products, and studies at Ohio State University on the role of retinaldehyde dehydrogenase in diet induced obesity. I wrote my Bachelor’s thesis on development of pluripotent stem cells for vascular therapy at Stanford University and continued my research at Stanford following my graduation from the University of Graz in 2010. I started my graduate studies at UCLA where I rotated in three laboratories. I have received several awards and/or fellowships from the University of Graz, the Marshall Plan foundation, UCLA and the American Heart Association.
